Another birthday, bees and that local icon the Small Banana ... yes banana!!

Of course the biggest news of the weekend was Margaret’s birthday; definitely another year wiser not older!

Yes we did garden before and after morning tea but muffins and biscuits certainly kept our energy levels up and also enabled us to have a long chat about everything so that nicely delayed our return to  work.

salvias and bees

Yes we do grow veggies, but importantly we try and look after the local bees - our first photo and the larger one above, shows the vibrant salvias at the rear of the car park, just a shower of mauve and has those little bees buzzing in delight.

In this second photo is our new grafted dwarf lime, this just about completes our citrus family and gives us an option of either lemon or lime in our gin and tonics!

But back to work and work we did, another hand of bananas was cut down to be hung in the Margaret and Lawrie's; then Lawrie removed the tree itself as we have quite a few banana trees that “walk” ( technical term apparently) and now we have a mini plantation - look out for that well known landmark -
The Small Banana - out back!

No photos included of the pumpkin patch, but these are certainly not hiding in he front. There are ssooo many growing and this from just 3 little seeds. Peter our pumpkin plucker wants to negotiate a new rate per pumpkin!

Most front beds were fed, our mustard plants were turned back into the soil to provide nutrients. Our carrots and parsnips are still hiding under the soil, so we hope they make an appearance soon; no such problems with the sugar snap and snow peas and the broad beans, they all are strong and healthy as are the red cabbages and broccoli.

The break in the constant rain is helping, let’s hope we get a few more sunny days.

Happy gardening
