You know that happy feeling you get when the boss (Margaret) will be away and you think to yourself that I will come in a little bit later, have morning tea earlier and for longer, generally have a relaxed morning - well I had that feeling briefly last Saturday- unfortunately like always you get let down and nothing changes or you actually work harder!
Saturday came and the dedicated crew of young ladies thought that work was the order of the day - come back Margaret so I can have a break!
The crew installed a lattice along the rear car park fence for our future choko vine, a location chosen for our new “Garden Open “ sign and a pipe hammered into the ground to ensure that it doesn’t fly away when erected, lovely sugar snap and snow peas picked and consumed, the last of our pumpkins picked by Pat, lettuce and cabbage picked and shared - please note wonderful full cabbage in photo one and a head of broccoli (photo two)growing nicely from our broccoli bed ready for picking in a couple of weeks. Lynne picked another half bucket of mandarins and then all the ladies including the weed mistress Elisabeth, got stuck into clearing out the front, removing all remnants of the very successful pumpkin vine and weeding at the same time; green bin load of vines etc was collected and additional space made by a sprightly Marguerite jumping on the top of the bin to compress the vines - obviously a gymnast in her past!
So tiring watching these events unfold.
Finally we got to morning tea and an extremely tasty and well received cake with a hole in the middle. The all female crew very satisfied and deserving of a break and we were able to sit in the sunshine and soak up a few rays.
Happy gardening
Mick
