Chokos here we come

Watch out Lawrie I’ll be back next Saturday, weather permitting, your share of morning tea will be less, so have a good breakfast before coming to the garden.

I was out of action on Saturday but have had an extensive report on the morning’s work (a phone call); Lawrie was there with his harem - you’re a brave man - and somehow managed to get a lot of work completed despite a very cold start.

Our first broccoli heads were picked, lovely sweet white  cabbage, peas were picked with the dew still clinging to them, pak choi and finally I think our last lettuce was plucked from it’s bed.

We now officially have a choko vine, beginnings anyway, on the back fence of the car park. I have a vague memory of there being a choko vine on nearly every neighbour’s fence and my mother trying to eat cook them in various ways ( yuk) but we are so much more educated (?) now so I’m sure we will find delicious ways to consume these once they get to harvest time.

Salvias were judiciously pruned and a complimentary crop planted with our slow growing onions. Broad beans are starting to flower, but even now our thoughts are turning to spring / summer crops.

Does that mean sunshine and warmth? Time will tell.

Happy gardening
