From small beginnings big things grow - Our Anniversary

2 Mar 2022 by Mick in: Mick's Garden Blog

Saturday celebrated our garden’s 6th anniversary, so a little history today.

The garden began with pulling out agapanthus from just about everywhere and then Lawrie and David constructing our first few above ground beds facing Buckingham Ave.  Over the years we the pulled out the ravaged grass out front and then shovelled top soil and mulch and planted the existing edible native midgen berries that now cover the front ( pumpkins currently as well).

Out back around the house the gardeners cleared away loads of dead shrubs and weeds , cleared the fence line and recently paved along side it to really tidy it up.

We installed pallets to solidify and construct further useable planting areas.

Adjacent to the pathway another 3 raised beds have been installed.

We try to be as sustainable as possible so have installed three water tanks that enable us to use recycled water from our building roofs.

We have been able share much of our produce with the congregation over these years including tomatoes, potatoes, sweet potatoes, spinach, zucchini and lettuces.

Thanks to bottle recycling, Margaret’s jam sales and a couple of grants,( and donations from the congregation members) your garden has been mainly self funded.

All our produce is given away / shared freely.

During our 6 years we have been wonderfully well fed and enjoyed lengthy morning teas covering wide ranging and surprising topics - this time is as important to everyone as the garden.

Come and have look and join us for a cuppa
So well done to everyone
