Mick’s Beds

Well I might not have been there last Saturday and again you will not have the benefit of my work ethic and amazing wit this Saturday, but I have been to the garden to ensure that there were no idle hands!

normanhurst neighbourhood garden peasCertainly most parts of the garden are surviving  well thanks to a few days of actual sunshine . Our first photo shows the amazing growth in our sugar snap and snow peas clawing their way up the extremely clever trellis erected by Lawrie, these are flanked by a row of sunflowers ( wrong name really this year) pushing up and searching for any sign of the sun.

Our second photo shows the bare bed that is supposed to show bright green  leaves hiding budding carrots under the surface - the adjoining bed of parsnips is the same, just bare; it is rumoured that these beds will be renamed “Mick’s Beds” due to their lack of action! Bit unkind really but probably true!
I won’t mention pumpkins except to say …….. WOW ….  they still grow and thrive and are now burying our midgen berries under huge elephant ear like leaves. Our brassicas ( impressive use of agricultural term) or cabbages, cauliflowers and broccoli are proving our leaders’ foresight and continue to spread up and out, spinach is beginning to look edible and the chillies never put a foot wrong.

Happy gardening
Mick
